Network Architecture

Connex, Inc. offers Internet bandwidth with all of our Phoenix colocation plans, on our multi-homed network featuring Hurricane Electric and Cogent Communications as carriers.

Hurricane Electric is a major worldwide International Internet Backbone Provider.  As one of the world's top 10 most interconnected Internet networks, H.E.'s Internet backbone is international and fully redundant, with thousands of 10GigE and OC192 connections at every location.  H.E.'s backbone is all fiber optic, and utilizes intelligent routing to make sure that customer's traffic goes the most direct and fastest route to its destination. Peering and transit locations are listed here.

In addition to H.E.'s own international Internet backbone, H.E. has peering relationships with over five-thousand (5,000) major national and international networks, and also directly connects to over one-thousand three-hundred (1,300) major national and international Internet networks. H.E. directly connects to AT&T, Akamai, XO, Verio, Verizon, Abovenet, Swisscom, Japan Telecom, Earthlink, Broadwing, MSN, etc. and most any major network that you can think of within the industry. Directly connecting to and exchange traffic with most all major networks increases the speed of data transfer by sending data directly to its destination.  In addition to this Hurricane Electric also has over five-thousand (5,000) peering sessions with major Internet Networks.  This gives Hurricane Electric network users maximum speed and reliability.

Hurricane Electric's switched network utilizes the Border Gateway Protocol Version 4 (BGP4) over dark fiber and long haul wavelengths. H.E. always updates the router's IOS after stress testing the latest IOS on a non-critical router, to make sure it is very stable. The switch that your equipment will ultimately be connected to is connected back to a core router via fiber.
